Tuesday Pick-Me-Up

I love these photos of vintage suitcases :) We actually used some for our wedding, and my in-laws have quite a few. I'm considering getting them back! They'd be cool (yet, a bit unpractical) for travel and they're pretty good for storage nightstands. Quite stylish. This week, I've just been left to my own devices since Steven has gone up to Philly for work. I miss him. ALOT. And it's only Tuesday. Thankfully, I have a jewelry party to attend tomorrow night and then Thursday I'm having some girlfriends over to watch Bridesmaids. Have you seen it?! Absolutely hilar. And then it'll be Friday and the really good news is, I get to join hubs b/c I'm flying to Philly!! (Lord, help me navigate an airport by myself. Yikes!) Any suggestions for us? I'll be packing up my handy Samsonite rather than one of these chic totes...But, nonetheless, I'll be prepared for whatever STH has in store! (I'm leaving the plans up to him. ahh!)

I'd love to get my hands on some vintage LV :)

Being home alone really makes me wish for one of these, too...
 and my absolute fave...

Hope you're off to a great week!

Weekend Recap!

Hello friends, excuse my lack of postings! I was out of town this past weekend and now I'm sick! I'll update you quickly...if only I looked this pretty with the sniffles...

This past weekend I had a weekend away with the gals for my sweet friend, Amber's last fling! She's getting married in less than one month. She had no idea where we were heading and the crazy caravan of headwear was off to NoVa. Once we arrived, she still had no idea as to why we were there...little did she know, we were going to the Virginia Wine Festival :) The Beatles cover band was so fun and then a beach music band practically played the entire soundtrack to Dirty Dancing. A celebratory bottle of Barboursville Voigner Reserve came home with me, which just happened to be the wine hand selected by Prince William and Kate Middleton for their wedding celebration in DC. Quite a fun time had by all!

Before I left, I saw that HunterBoots were on Gilt.com and I couldn't resist!! These bad boys should be on my doorstep any day now...as an early Christmas gift. They had the wedge ones, but not in the color I wanted. These were less expensive and I think Navy will go with everything. Yay!
Stay well, lovelies. I'm off to bed!

Faux Real.

This weekend was one of the most productive weekends hubby and I have ever had. It was fantastic. Steven and I had a blast just getting things done around our house together. I actually took the day off Friday to get a head start because I know us, and we work hard and then we relax. We accomplish and then we play. That's just what keeps us going, but this weekend was very successful. We cleaned out our garage, organized it (decently, for now. I'd love to get lockers and more shelving, and some of our furniture still needs to find a place) But at least we know what we're working with! It's not just a major clustercluck. We took so much stuff to Goodwill and we even started painting our nightstands! Sunday was wonderful because we went to church and finished some projects and had a chance to reflect on how blessed we are ten years after 9/11.  Seeing all the coverage of those terrible events just makes us appreciate everything we have more than anything. This weekend we also ventured out to take a look at a dresser that I found on Craigslist.  Major score. Major investment for us, however, we really took the time the to think about it and we did our research. Pretty exciting. It's perfect. I tried some of my Dave Ramsey tricks, and we were able to get it for $50 less than the posted price. I aimed really low, and she was a tough cookie. Still felt good, though, because we found out from the seller that she bought the dresser at an estate sale. The other 3 pieces of the set were bought by a high end furniture consignment shop nearby. We went to check out those pieces (end tables and a bar). We learned a good bit about the furniture line (from Mt. Airy, NC and at least 20 years old). The end tables together were priced just less than double what the dresser cost. The dresser was solid, sturdy, and heavy as lead. Great find! So now some photos:

Our nightstands:
totally in need of some TLC!
 Primed!
Coat 1:
 Glossy Glosssaaay!
I'm thinking 1-2 more coats later this week or next!
 sprayed gold!
Not sure how I feel about the spray paint I selected, but I think it'll be easy to respray if I find another gold with a little more shimmer.

Here's our (soon to be) dresser:
LURVE.
These were the other pieces of the line that matched:
 I love the bartop!

now...the big question...what to do with it!?

Here's some inspiration from the fab stores, Room Service & Pieces:
um btw, this costs a mere $2400.

I love the painted look, but do I want 3 pieces in white? It's such a large dresser so I'm honestly a bit intimidated about painting it, but I think the results would be so worth the effort. We may keep it as is because it is in wonderful condition and until we have more of an idea where we're going with decor, I can't commit to painting.
I was also a little nervous about that much bamboo, but we would balance the rest of the room with our bed and our mirror, and maybe a chair or the bench. My mom called me this weekend and mentioned her and my dad are just dying to try making an upholstered headboard, so we might be switching the bed out, yet again! I'd totally be alright with that! I also have an antique pencil post bed that could be an option (may be too high for the nightstands) in which I could paint a fun color. Oh the decisions! What are your ideas?!

ps. It's been 5 months of sweet bliss :)

Retreat.

Like many folks I know, my master bedroom as been put on the backburner while the common spaces of our home took first priority. Even though we're not quite finished with the downstairs, we're getting ancy to make our bedroom more special. I'll show you some before pictures soon because they're a real treat. Steven had a Braves trashcan, an NC State framed stadium print above the bed, and so much red furniture in one room, I was pretty much speechless the first time I set foot inside. I'll just say, bless his heart. We made a vast improvement by switching out our bedding to a new creamy colored duvet and even more progress by switching out the bed to my queen sized white iron bed. We even rearranged the furniture placement to accomodate a future dresser (cross fingers tomorrow goes well-I found 2 on craigslist!) and my nightstands. If you've been following, you noticed my bamboo nightstands that I scored at the flea market! I'm hoping to paint them this weekend! Details to come, friends, but here are some of my inspirations for our home "sanctuary." We're working with a pretty blank canvas, other than our wedding bench + Steven's one request to pop some yellow :)

 First off:
This bed is so similar to ours. We also pushed it up against our window because of our space. The color scheme is somewhat on point, but I'm the general style isn't quite me.

But clearly, I'm a fan of aqua blue and anything bamboo. That mirror is gorg!

Ahhh the Chiang Mai Dragon. Especially in Alabaster. I could just DIE. I may be able to afford just a small throw pillow! Speaking of...
Did you see my twitter pal, Mr. Goodwill Hunting a few weeks ago? He used this fabric and made a dapper bowtie. One day, I may need to create a sundress. Oh how fabulous would that be!?

I'm thinking thick silky vibrant drapes on our windows, similar to these. Loving the height!

I adore the wallpaper and the lamp! Plus, our bedding is neutral shades of whites and creams. This yellow is so happy! Our connecting Master Bath has an offset toilet room, so I may pop yellow stripes in there like these:

I keep going back to this Kravet Jellybean fabric and it could blend nicely with the yellow, too. It mixes well with gray and I cannot resist stripes. (Or upholstered headboards)
Even Better, I spotted this on Young House Love

 And last, but not least:
I simply love everything about this, even though it's using pale yellow. So soothing and sophisticated.

decisions, decisions.
What are your faves?

Lately In Pictures

Here's a little recap of us soaking up the last bit of summer!
Steph, around the 19th-ish month mark!

We made it to The Livingston, which is in the Georgian Terrace Hotel. Gorg!
I pretty much died over seeing one of these in person.
 Bright Lights of ATL!
More of Livingston. Below is the Grand Ballroom, where the Gone with the Wind cast party was held.
We're having another wedding and doing it here:

Sundial! Best views of the city!

love him!

 Our nephew enjoying the Aquarium

 Olympic Park!

We made it to Pieces! Totally loved it. And Lee was so sweet and inspiring!

Braves game. Nicholas had so much fun:)
 and so did we.

My inlaws and my hubby!

On our way back to our neck of the woods, we made a pitstop to find out about the Peanut!
Cut to this weekend, and our grown up tailgate.
the spread was amazing and the weather was gorgeous!

We were directly in the sun and so glad when the sun started setting. Two touchdowns at the end of the game, made the game a blowout Wolfpack win!
ps- so much for curling my hair that morning!
 Baby Shower time!
 glowing!
My mother in law, made this sweet blanket!
and that sweet girl will be rockin in Uggs!
so adorable...
