Tap! Tap! Tap!

Tonight I'm pretty pumped to be joining a few other local Raleigh bloggers & friends for Wine & Design: Abstract Edition. Rachel graciously set it up and did all the organizing because she and Jessie were chatting about how they loved the concept of wine & design, yet they were very interested in creating something a bit more modern! Abstract art is not normally on the "event schedule," and I hope after tonight's event, it will show up more often. I can hardly wait to channel my inner Bob Ross (kidding).
I've never attempted abstract art but here's some major inspiration: (sources to come soon! sorry, y'all!)

Have you ever created abstract art?!

I'll be a better blogger this week.
exciting things are happening in life amidst the hellaciousness of the 8-5 I've got going on right now.
4000 miles in 20 days.
I'll try keeping up.

Hope your weekend was fab!

Friday Frills

I LOVED the Paris Market store in Savannah, Ga! Hello, future kitchen inspiration :)

Wishing y'all a summery weekend full of friends, family, and sunshine! We're heading to see Bluegrass legend, Ralph Stanley tonight and then we're trekking in the opposite direction tomorrow morning to celebrate one of my oldest friends, Emily, who is getting married! My mom and her friends have done it again and planned a Carribean themed beach party, which is sure to be a blast. Sunday will be full of boat rides and a cookout to celebrate my dad, grandad, and my uncle (early).

Campaign Desk SNEAK PEEEK!

Hey Y'all! Today I'm sharing a little sneak peek of my big campaign desk! As you may recall, I have TWO campaign desks...both of which are still occupying my garage. I have, however, almost completed the big one. This is the one I'm 98.9% sure I'm going to keep. Over the last few weekends, between traveling, my Saturdays have been spent outdoors going green AKA- perfecting additional coats of spray paint.  Well, 10+ cans and some elbow grease later, this bad boy just needs some sort of glass/mirror top and a new drawer pull! Then we'll somehow get 'em upstairs so I can get to work on the rest of my office.

Let's start from the beginning, shall we?

Anytime you may prep for a spray project or whatever, be sure to just go ahead and let the folks at Lowe's know you'll be back again. Perhaps even 4 times. That day. Silly me for getting only 5 cans of green spray paint to start with!
Primer, green spray, spray guns...you name it, I grabbed it.

Allow me to introduce you to BRASSO, my AMAZEBALLS friend.

There are maybe 2 handles that just could not make pretty because of erosion or something. I'm taking them to my dad this weekend to see if he can somehow fix or clean them up better, but overall, we can thank Brasso for the winning shine.
The scary "before":
 rub a dub dub.

I used 2 cans of the Zinsser Spray Primer. I attempted to use the spray guns, but they weren't worth the money. They also don't work with Valspar spray paint.

Oh, hello.
(btw I was literally green after all this. and I wore my rings. alcohol and a toothbrush cleaned them right up, but I just forgot to take them off before I started!)

This was one-two coats of spray. Steven started questioning my antics at this point...(honestly, I did too...gulp) I didn't have the most even spray "technique", but you really just need to keep applying more light coats between sanding. Keep 'em comin...

Here's a tease with some of the hardware stuck on before I actually reassemble. All that's left are a couple of coats of glossy finishing spray and a glass or mirrored top. The surface wasn't as smooth as I'd like it to be and I had some paint issues there...so, unless I can fix them it needs to be covered because it kind of looks like crap for functional purposes!

What do y'all think?!

Friday Frills! & Feelin' Good!

Happy June, y'all! Wow. Summer is here :) This year is flying by. With May being so incredibly busy, I'm hoping to ease into summer at a steady pace. With that said, steady doesn't necessarily mean lazy or boring. (I mean, really- with zombie face-eating crazies out there and a fire-spitting hair dryer this week, when is life ever really boring?)  I'm whipping my behind into shape & making it a point to feel fantastic come July for our beach trip! I'm definitely not bikini ready. (sidebar: I'm 0% athletic. I hate the intimidation of the gym. I can't stand running, yet walking/jogging hasn't been cutting it. Yoga makes me uncomfortable. I just don't bend that way. And I'm that awkward white girl with no rhythm in a gym class. Usually I fall down or give people a reason to just point and laugh, regardless. And let's be honest: my idea of being outdoorsy includes a patio, a pool, and "lemonade.") The goal this month is to focus on self, focus on CONTINUING! to eat right, to live with boundaries, and to say YES to good choices. And clearly, I need to turn all those negative thoughts about working out into something positive. I'm joining a gym. And dammit, it's going to be fun. I'm going to spin if it kills me. I need to keep in mind that we have a pretty full social calendar most weekends in June, so I'll be seeing our families and our friends. We don't have to see them every week. I don't have to sneak in a dinner or drink with friends every week (anyone else guilty?!). But ladies-call me if you want to gym it up with me.

Dipping into summer means a little of all this:

perfection!
